Subdivision control is another way the Planning Commission can shape its community’s character. This tool is used to influence the layout of lots and streets and coordinate the construction of public infrastructure to support homes and businesses.

The City of Chattanooga Major and Minor subdivision application and review process is moving to Open Gov April 1st, 2024!
The RPA Staff is holding two webinars to review this new process March 27th and 28th! Please fill out this link to receive a calendar invite.

RPA Plats

There are three (3) types of RPA plat reviews:

Staff Approved Plats

Any division or revision of lots less than five (5) lots with no needed variances or new public streets.   These plats do not go to the Planning Commission.

To submit for review, email a PDF of the plat and the AutoCAD file to the Hamilton County Geospatial Office for review at sdreview@hamiltontn.gov.  Review times are typically 10 business days.

Minor Plats

Subdivisions of 6-10 lots.  Requires Planning Commision approval.  Plat can be submitted as a combination Preliminary/Final Plat to the Planning Commission.

To submit, send plat and supporting documents to subdivision@chattanooga.gov.  Subdivision plat submittals are due by the third Monday of the month.

Major Plats

Subdivisions of more than 10 lots.  Requires Planning Commission approval.  Preliminary Plat and Final Plat are required to be submitted separately.
