The Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) details the activities, schedule and responsible parties for each transportation planning task. Usually developed for a two-year period, the work program follows the Federal fiscal year from October 1st through September 30th.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County/North Georgia Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is responsible for coordinating the transportation planning activities for the Chattanooga-TN, GA Urbanized Area. The Urbanized Area is comprised of Hamilton County, TN and Catoosa County, GA and the northern portions of Dade and Walker counties in Georgia. The transportation planning process is a vital part of the overall planning for Chattanooga, Hamilton County, and the North Georgia areas. The process is based on the development of the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP). The TPO’s UPWP identifies transportation planning activities for a two-year period. The UPWP is developed in cooperation with state and transit partners and outlines transportation planning activities performed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA), and the TPO.
