Background
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is currently studying the feasibility of a toll bridge across the Tennessee River in central Hamilton County. The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County/North Georgia Transportation Planning Organization led a study sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Transportation to examine the long-term impacts of growth and development on transportation, infrastructure, public services, quality of life and the environment in areas surrounding the proposed Tennessee River Bridge.
Different growth scenarios were explored in the sub-area surrounding the proposed toll bridge location. The major emphasis was on the transportation impacts of such growth, but the study also examined implications from other public services, including schools, water, sewer, stormwater, fire and police services.
The objective of the study was not to recommend a preferred growth scenario, but rather to inform stakeholders and decision-makers of the relative impacts of each scenario so that they can get a better understanding of the relationships between growth, transportation and public infrastructure/services.
Study Area
For purposes of this planning study, the proposed study area is roughly bounded by Interstate 75 to the east, US 27 to the west, Bonny Oaks Drive to the south and Mahan Gap Road to the North.
