Bike to School days 2019 photo of cyclists riding over a small bridge along the Riverwalk. The TPO convenes a diverse group of organizations and individual volunteers to organize our community’s Walk and Bike to School Days. Local media coverage with details for the most recent events are below:

“Local Schools Celebrate Bike to School Day”, The Chattanoogan.com, Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

“Tennessee Valley Students Participate in International Walk to School Day”. WRCB-TV, Tuesday, October 2, 2018

TPO involvement with these events stems from our earlier work with the federal Safe Routes to School program. While there is no longer a standalone federal Safe Routes to School funding program,  safe routes to school projects are eligible for federal funding under the set-aside of Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program funding for transportation alternatives in the FAST Act, the most recent federal transportation legislation.

Contact Jonathan Gibbons at jgibbons@chattanooga.gov if you are interested in organizing a walk or bike to school day event at your school.
